Winter Woe's- Itchy Scalp and dehydrated hair

So the time has come where we do battle with the cold winter change, but that doesn’t mean our hair should have too.
The cold outside air and the manufactured heat indoors strips your hair of all its moisture, leaving it dry and causing breakage. So I’m going to tell you a little bit more about what you could be doing to prevent the stress of dehydrated hair and scalp.

Wash less. Less shampoo means more moisture.
Although not washing as often makes some hair feel oily, most of us have discovered dry shampoo and how it allows us to skip a day or two. But in the winter, it can live up to its name a little too literally and dry hair out. In this case, try combing the dry shampoo in from the root of your hair to about an inch down. This will help pick up any product build-up that may be causing dryness. Then lather the ends in oil: The drier and thicker the hair, the more oil it will take.

Splurge on a boar bristle brush. Not only will it feel good on your scalp, it's great for circulation and can breath new life into limp and dry hair.
The
Evo Bradford natural boar bristle pin brush stimulates the scalp, reduces frizz and adds shine. This soft cushion pad is ideal for gentle daily styling and to maintain the hair's condition Give a good brush through at night before you go to sleep and one in the morning and your hair will look and feel moisturized.

Layer with care. Ever wonder how you got that giant dreadlock-like gnarl at the nape of your neck?
It is a result of the friction caused by layering your clothes over your hair. When putting on your winter sweaters and scarves, part your hair down the back of your head in the middle as if you were making low pigtails, pull towards the front, then wrap your scarf around your neck.

Deep condition. Getting a treatment regularly or doing one yourself will not only strengthen your hair, it will help your hair retain its moisture—especially if you chose to keep highlighting throughout the winter period. Adding a leave in conditioner/moisturiser to your haircare routine will also work wonders.

Get a clear gloss. If your hair is looking as drab as the weather, a clear gloss will add instant shine.
Book one with your next blow out or trim. It will seal moisture in the cuticle of your hair and extend the life of your current colour. We also have our Fabuloso Pro range available, for at home maintenance and in salon services. Ask your Ataraxia stylist for a Fab Pro consultation at your next visit.

Cut down on your heat-heavy styling routine. All that heat and dryness will result in split ends and breakage.
Correct use of Heat Protectant and leave in moisturisers will help prevent breakage. Try Evo Hair ‘Icon Welder’ $34 and Evo Hair ‘Head Mistress- Cuticle Sealer’ $34. Also try protective styles, such as braids, buns, twists, and ponytails, which give hair time off from the heat routine.

But never go outside with damp hair to bypass breakage. Although time is of the essence in the morning, it’s critical to dry hair thoroughly before dashing into the cold. ‘cold expands, and that’s what can happen with your wet hair shaft in the cold weather, which puts you at risk for breakage and makes your colour fade faster,’ Take the time. Your hair and your salon bill will thank you later.

Hydrate hair overnight with an oil or serum. Dry night air leeches moisture from your skin (hello, night cream!) as well as your hair.
Try using an Oil overnight to combat dryness. “yes, It can sometimes create a mess on your pillowcase, but I say designate an old pillowcase for ‘hydration night.’” Apply a cream, oil or serum, we recommend Olaplex no3 on dry hair right before bed.
‘Always cover your hair with to avoid friction. It will also keep moisture levels intact.’

Flaky Scalp It's winter season and it is cold, dry and harsh.
Winter can make your skin extremely dry and that includes your scalp. Dry scalp is an issue faced by many during the winter season, thanks to the moisture being sucked out due to the weather conditions. And the constant juggle between the cold temperature outside and the warm one inside, this situation becomes even worse. This makes your scalp flaky and itchy, and cause issues such as dandruff
Deep-conditioning treatments are the perfect way to pamper your scalp during the winter and ward off dryness, itchiness and flakiness. It conditions your scalp, adds moisture to it and shields your scalp from further damage.
