Social Media- Friend or Foe

YO GIRLS ARE BACK !!
Ataraxia is officially trading again and if there’s one thing I am looking forward to it is some fresh Social Media Content.
Why?
Because social media makes or breaks a small business.

Just before we closed I was working in salon one night, i had just completed a beautiful colour when I was once again presented with the ‘struggle’ now any hairdresser will vouch for how hard it is to take a photo that represents their work CORRECTLY!
8 photos all completely different and none of which show the client's
TRUE colour.
'Flash on, Flash off'
Ring Light vs Natural Light, is there such thing as too much light?
What's a good angle?
Will the client care if their face is in it?
Oh and then 6pm rolls around and the flash on your fancy AF iPhone turns the beautiful ash blonde you have just been perfecting for hours into a yellow looking box dye and you wonder why you even bother with so much effort for 30 odd likes on the ol’ Instagram page.
Yes that’s right, because unless you’re Kylie Jenner promoting her latest business venture your friends, family and local community will keep on scrolling.

Well, it's simple really. We as a society live through social media, and while it has its perks of course it is unbelievably hard as a small business to be found or seen in the world of 'social media'
When I first started my business 7plus years ago, Social Media in terms of business wasn’t what it is today.
I remember creating a colour taking one photo uploading it to Facebook. Job Done!
No fancy captions, No hashtags, No pressure of hitting so many likes within a time frame. Just beautiful f##king hair!!
And boy oh boy the likes would come swarming in 50’s, 100’s, 1000’s, comments, SUPPORT!
Why?
Why then? Why not now?
We as a salon are busier than ever, our chairs are full, books over flooded with clients. So what is missing?

This year I decided that I wouldn’t let social media dictate certain business decisions and control the outcome of situations that I was presented with.
Knowing full well the honest details of a situation as a business you can still often be bullied and pressured by threats of a false social media review. I’m sure we have all seen a few :)

One of the most common things social media is used for these days is posting one sided, false accusations as a tactic for clientele to get what they want. This is purely disgusting, tarnishing a business for your own personal gain will never be ok.

I have 7 plus years of exceptional business work and customer service, 17 years industry experience and i am now facing my biggest struggle in business ‘learning to navigate the world of social media’
Almost like a full time job in its self, knowing when and what to post.
’Post Everyday’
’Post Multiple times a day’
’Only post quality content”
Countless hours of work and research is behind all of our content that you see and the fact is, we are simply hairstylists who love our job and the hair we create. We are not photographers with the perfect lighting and angles.

Although only sometimes we nail that perfect insta worthy hair shot, I can 110% guarantee you we nail that perfect, seamless, hair colour every damn time and your social media presence and support will do more for this business than you will ever begin to realize.

So go ahead, give us a like. Appreciate what we go through to bring you the content we do.
